About
In a Nutshell
My name is Vincent Lim Show Chen (long name with a long story), and I'm a seasoned web developer with five years experience (wow, I can't believe it's been that long already) and now work at Condé Nast Publications. I was born in Queens, NY, raised in Woodbridge, NJ, and now live in Brooklyn, NY. I graduated from RIT with a Bachelor of Science and hope to learn more about the future of the web and participate in its development.
The Uncut Version
I'm currently employed as a front-end web developer at Condé Nast Publications, located in midtown Manhattan, New York. I use my expertise in CSS and XHTML to create layouts with lightweight markup.
I was born in Queens, New York, and raised in Woodbridge, New Jersey. I earned my B.S. at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Information Technology with New Media Option, which has been renamed recently as New Media Interactive Development. Now I live in Brooklyn, New York, which I'm starting to I really love. For any Brooklynites visiting this site, I'm located in Carroll Gardens.
It was always my dream to live in New York City, and there really is no other place like it. I would like to visit other major U.S. cities like Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, Miami and Boston. The list goes on, but I will always know that my passion and heart belongs in NYC.
I've been doing web development for five years now and hope to learn more about it. I'm interested in the development and future of web technologies like CSS, XHTML, JavaScript, PHP, Microformats, and SVG.
As much as I love the web, I just have to list my top pet peeves about it:
- web devs who claim to know CSS and web standards but still use tables for layout and use horrible markup, like nested tables
- in-line styles
- Internet Exploder
Looking Forward
As I work in the web development field, I hope to learn more and one day become an inspiration to other web developers.
Non-web stuff
Yes, that's right, I do have other hobbies outside of the Internet! In fact, I sometimes think I have too many hobbies. I like:
- Lost, the TV series
- planted tanks
- paintball
- breakdancing
- reading about chaos theory and and systemic philosophy
- home design
- drawing
- digital photography
- snowboarding
- watching pro football (I'm a NY Giants fan)
The list can go on. There are just too many things in life that can't be passed up!
